Chlorinated volatile organics were detected in the soil and groundwater at this former plating facility. The levels exceeded the NJDEP Groundwater Screening Levels specified in the Vapor Intrusion Guidance Document.

ECI completed a NJDEP approved vapor intrusion Conceptual Site Model to identify contaminant sources, migration & exposure pathways, and potential human receptors. This information was used to develop a Vapor Intrusion Interim Remedial Measure which received NJDEP approval to remediate the indoor air quality concern with minimal disruption to tenant operations. The measure consisted of the installation of an active soil depressurization system to capture vapors and prevent them from entering building.

As part of a NJDEP approved Remedial Action Selection Report the following additional remedial measures are being currently evaluated by ECI:

  1. Excavation and offsite disposal of DNAPL and metals contaminated soils,
  2. Multiphase groundwater extraction to remove chlorinated organics from the source area and underlying bedrock,
  3. Groundwater pumping and treatment using the on-site reconfigured production well,
  4. In-Situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO) to complete the vadose zone remediation and shorten the duration of the pump and treatment system.
